Mixed media illustration of a Red Admiral butterfly on birchbark with ferns in the background. While on a spring walk I found a complete tube of birchbark. To give the painting a sense of time and place I added the fiddlehead ferns and butterfly. This was one of my first full color illustrations on the dark flannel Canson Mi-Teintes paper. Ⓒ 2001
